Color Battle

Spring Fundraiser

Friday, April 17, 2026

Color the Nest is SEMS PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year — and the most fun! Every spring, students and staff come together for an epic Color Battle on campus while families and friends rally to support our school. Every dollar raised stays right here at SEMS, funding academic programs, campus improvements, staff appreciation, and so much more.

  • "Color the Nest was straight FIRE 🔥 Best day of middle school, no cap."

    8th Grader

  • "Color the Nest is lowkey the most fun thing that happens all year. It's giving good vibes, it's giving school spirit, it's giving core memories. I was still finding color in my hair three days later and I regret nothing."

    7th Grader

  • "I wasn't sure what to expect but by the time the color hit the air I was having the time of my life. Running around with my classmates, music blasting, everyone yelling. It was one of those days you just don't forget."

What Color The Nest Funds

When you participate in Color the Nest, you're doing more than having a great time — every dollar raised stays right here at San Elijo Middle School and goes directly toward programs that make a real difference for our students, staff, and campus. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the impact it has on our school community is something we're incredibly proud of.

Your donations support:

  • Academic Programs — registration fees for academic programs and competitions

  • Faculty Stipends — funding that makes enrichment opportunities possible for every classroom

  • Student Equity — resources to ensure every student has access to the same opportunities

  • Site Enhancements — athletic banners, lunch tables & campus upgrades not covered by the district

  • Library Book Fair — volunteers and support for this beloved campus tradition

  • Mini-Grants — funding for classroom and department needs not covered by the district

  • Staff Appreciation — breakfasts, lunches & year-round gestures of gratitude

  • Teacher Training — subsidized programs that help our educators keep growing and learning

  • Conference Registrations — sending teachers to conferences that bring fresh ideas back to our classrooms

  • Investing in Educators — because when our teachers thrive, our students do too

  • WEB Program — helping students transition confidently into middle school where everyone belongs

  • 8th Grade Promotion — a fun, safe, and memorable celebration for promoting students

One of our top priorities is academic enrichment, which includes covering registration fees, faculty stipends, and resources that support student equity across all grade levels. We also invest in site enhancements that go beyond what the district budget covers — from athletic banners that celebrate our Golden Eagles to student lunch tables that give kids a better place to connect and recharge during the school day.

Our mini-grant program is another meaningful way your donations come to life. Teachers and staff can apply for funding to cover classroom, department, or school needs that simply wouldn't happen otherwise. We also subsidize professional development opportunities so our educators can continue growing and bringing their best to every student they serve.

Color the Nest also helps us show up for our staff in meaningful ways throughout the year. From the Welcome Back breakfast at the start of school to Teacher Appreciation Week lunches and small gestures of gratitude year-round, we make sure the people who pour so much into our kids feel seen and celebrated.

Beyond the classroom, PTO funding supports the Library Book Fair, bringing volunteers and excitement to one of the most beloved traditions on campus. We're proud to back the WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) program, which helps incoming students navigate the transition to middle school with confidence. And every spring, we help make 8th Grade Promotion a moment that students and their families will always remember — a fun, safe, and joyful celebration of everything they've accomplished.

Pledgestar: How + Why

Pledgestar is the secure, easy-to-use platform we use to manage Color the Nest fundraising. It's designed specifically for school fundraisers, making it simple for families to set up a page, share it with loved ones, and track donations in real time — all in one place. We chose Pledgestar in part because of their low processing fees, meaning more of every dollar donated goes directly to SEMS students and programs.

  • Create your family page — register all your SEMS students under one account and send donation requests to family and friends with just a few clicks

  • Track your progress — watch donations come in live and see how your homeroom is stacking up for the lunch off campus incentive

  • Low fees, maximum impact — Pledgestar's minimal processing fees mean the vast majority of every donation goes straight to SEMS, not to the platform

  • Donate from anywhere — supporters near and far can donate online quickly and securely, no cash or checks required
